July 6: Day by Day with Father Bill

TUESDAY OF THE FOURTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

from Dante Stewart’s Twitter Thread

Christian faith would be so much healthier if we didn’t see our faith as a war to be won or people as enemies but as worlds to be explored and people to be loved.

What if we saw our faith as joining Jesus in healing and liberating the world and not controlling it and condemning it?

James Baldwin is right. “Salvation is not flight from the wrath of God; it is accepting and reciprocating the love of God. Salvation is not separation. It is the beginning of union with all there is or has been or will ever be…There is absolutely no salvation without love.”

It is sad that we have learned to criticize a God and faith that looks more loving and inclusive and celebrate a God and faith that looks more controlling and harmful.

Inhale: My faith is not a war.
Exhale: Love is better than control.
