July 27: Day by Day with Father Bill

MONDAY OF THE SEVENTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

In 2016, Representative John Lewis received the National Book Award for Book 3 in his trilogy of children’s books recounting the Civil Rights March from Selma to Montgomery across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.  It was on March 7, 1965, as Mr Lewis was beaten to the pavement by Alabama State Troopers, that he thought he would die.  Here is a link to his acceptance speech:

Even though I can’t recall if one of my grade-school teachers encouraged me to read, I am grateful every day for having a desire to always be reading something.  Reading opens up worlds to you and me that we would otherwise never experience and appreciate.
